However, there’s one heartbreaking exception: when a dog is about to be put to sleep. Some veterinarians allow dogs a small taste of chocolate as a final treat, ensuring they leave this world with a little extra joy.
An animal hospital in Smiths Station, Alabama, even keeps a jar of Hershey’s Kisses labeled: “Goodbye Kisses: This jar is reserved for our euthanasia appointments… because no dog should go to Heaven without tasting chocolate.”
A recent TikTok video by Mackenzie Seton, which has now been viewed over 59 million times, captures one of these bittersweet moments. In the clip, Seton lets her beloved dog enjoy chocolate for the first—and last—time before their final vet visit.
