There are cat lovers… and then there are Ricky’s grandparents.
When Izzie Grass left her kitten, Ricky, with her parents for two weeks, she expected him to be well cared for—but she never could have predicted what was waiting for her when she got him back. Not only had Ricky been pampered, but his adventures with Grandma and Grandpa were meticulously documented in a homemade photobook titled Ricky Goes to Gramma’s and Grampa’s, lovingly created by Grass’s mother.
A Kitten’s Staycation, Captured in a Photobook
Originally shared by Grass on TikTok in 2020, the adorable album reads like a children’s book, complete with stories of Ricky “helping Gramma do the dishes” and how “Cousin Jasper and Charlie ate most of” the pancakes Gramma made for him. Now that the photobook has resurfaced, people can’t get enough of Ricky’s grandparent-approved staycation.

The internet, of course, was immediately obsessed.
“I would die for Ricky, Gramma, and Grampa.” – One devoted commenter
“This is GOLD. I want to see Ricky Learns to Drive.“ – Another enthusiastic fan
“My parents didn’t even put this much effort into making scrapbooks for ME.” – A hilariously relatable take
Grass told Newsweek that her mom didn’t think twice about making the book. “That’s just what she does,” she said. “She is known for creating very sentimental gifts.”
Ricky’s Incredible Journey
As heartwarming as the photobook is, Ricky’s story almost had a very different ending.
When he was just 9 weeks old, Ricky was brought to the veterinary clinic where Grass worked—to be euthanized.
“The individuals who dropped him off reported that they found a kitten with broken legs who was throwing up everything they tried to feed him,” Grass explained. “I came back from my lunch early to care for this kitten, and in the kennel was Ricky.”
Fortunately, it turned out Ricky didn’t need to be put down. He had birth defects and medical issues that required specialized care, but with the right treatment, he had a chance. Grass decided to take him home but needed a little time to prepare for his care.
That’s when Gramma stepped in.
“My mom offered to watch him for a couple of weeks while I got my schedule figured out,” Grass shared. “It was during this time that she created the book.”
Knowing that Ricky needed extra care at the time makes the photobook even more touching.
Ricky’s Happily Ever After
Now three years old, Ricky has made incredible progress.
“His esophagus works significantly better, he has learned how to walk, climb, and run, and he continues to help me raise other foster kittens,” Grass said. “Ricky is very loved and lives the life he deserved to have.”
With a mom and grandparents like his, that’s no surprise.
