Viral Video of Rival Baby Beavers and Their Human Caretaker Is the Best Dam News Yet

There’s something irresistibly heartwarming about baby animals, and Nibi, a 5-month-old baby beaver, is no exception. But according to Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, this tiny troublemaker has a bit of a competitive streak when it comes to her roommate, Ziibi. The two beavers share living quarters at the rescue, and Nibi had earned some free-roaming time outside their enclosure after demonstrating “good behavior” toward her bunkmate.

Turns out, having two beavers is a lot like having two kids who share a bedroom—one inevitably wants the room all to themselves. While Nibi enjoyed her time exploring the room, Ziibi was off relaxing in the semi-aquatic enclosure, blissfully unaware that her cheeky roommate was hatching a devious plan.

With the coast clear, Nibi got to work. She began piling sticks in front of the door Ziibi had just exited, creating a makeshift dam to block her adorable rival from re-entering. Determined and clearly proud of her handiwork, Nibi carefully placed stick after stick, even retrieving one she’d dropped in her excitement.

Once the final stick was in place, Nibi couldn’t contain her glee, hopping in delight like only a baby beaver can. It’s a moment that has melted hearts across the internet.

The video, shared by Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, has amassed over 9.5 million views on Facebook and garnered 16,000 comments. Fans are especially obsessed with Nibi’s triumphant little hop at the end of her construction project.

While beavers are known for their instinct to build dams, Newhouse Wildlife Rescue explained to CNN that this behavior is usually to control water flow—not to keep their foster siblings out of a shared space. Nibi, it seems, has her own unique motives.

If you haven’t seen the video yet, prepare for maximum cuteness. Nibi’s sass and determination are on full display, and it’s easy to see why the internet can’t get enough of her antics. Check out the viral clip below and join the millions who’ve fallen in love with this scheming little beaver!
