Legendary basketball coach John Wooden once said, “The true test of a man's character is what he does when no one is watching.” If this statement holds true, then a video of two kids trick-or-treating shows that their character is top-notch.
According to Q13 Fox Seattle, 12-year-old Abby and her younger brother, Levi, were out trick-or-treating in Waconia, Minnesota, on Halloween night. When they arrived at Kristina Kallman’s home, they noticed the candy bowl she had left on the porch was empty. Abby, dressed as a superhero, and Levi, sporting a scary clown costume, faced a familiar Halloween dilemma.
Kallman had left the bowl out for the neighborhood kids while she attended a Halloween party. Either she had more visitors than she expected, or some trick-or-treaters took more than their share.
But instead of walking away disappointed, Abby made a generous move. She decided to refill the empty bowl with some of her own candy so other kids wouldn’t miss out. This heartwarming moment was captured on Kallman’s doorbell camera.
The video quickly gained attention, and commenters praised Abby’s thoughtful gesture. “Wow, special children there! I'd have to guess this behavior starts with the family. You young lady are destined for greatness and all those around you will be blessed by your friendship,” one YouTube user wrote. Another added, “Bless these children, they deserve an extra treat for their kindness.”
When the video went viral, their mother shared Abby’s modest reasoning behind her good deed: “Well, I didn't want other kids to not have candy.” If more people shared Abby's mindset, the world would certainly be a kinder place.
