Man illustrates how quickly deciding to get a cat can escalate—one is rarely enough.

When you adopt a cat—or more accurately, when a cat adopts you—something strange happens. A tiny voice starts telling you things that only cat owners understand: “You need another cat.” Does this voice actually exist? Who knows, but cats have a way of working their way into your heart and making demands without saying a word.

They’ll let you know when it’s dinner time, when to open the door, or when you’ve forgotten to scoop the litter box. Cats are sneaky little bosses with very underpaid human assistants. And somehow, people keep listening to that little voice telling them that one cat is never enough.

One man, known as Kylokilalayuumi on TikTok, captured his journey from one cat to four in a hilarious 20-second video, which has since garnered over 4 million views.

The video starts with an adorable striped kitten looking out the car window as the man drives it home. Then, it cuts to a black cat playing. Let’s be real: that kitten probably convinced him with its irresistible playfulness and claws. One kitten is usually just the beginning—soon, you're adopting another to keep them entertained (and prevent your head from becoming their playground).

“I’m just going to get one. How bad could one be? It’s not that expensive… Oh wait, I need to get it a friend. Who’s it going to talk to? It’ll get bored. And if they don’t get along, maybe a third one? And now I have three… might as well get the whole set!” the man says in the voiceover.

Other cat lovers quickly chimed in, recognizing the familiar pattern.

“You can’t have an odd number of cats, it’s the law,” one person commented.

“It’s like chips, you can’t have just one,” another wrote.

“Yeah, this is how I ended up with 7 cats in 2 months,” someone else shared.

It’s clear that once you own one cat, you’re very likely to end up with a whole clowder. And trust us, they know how to use that glare to get exactly what they want.
