Truck Driver’s Generosity Brings Lost Cat Back Home After a Year

BooBoo’s owners had nearly lost hope after their cat went missing for almost a year.

Vanore Voaklander and her husband had done everything they could think of to find BooBoo, who disappeared while playing outside near their home outside Edmonton. They put up posters, scoured local parks, and even offered a reward, but their efforts proved fruitless.

“We were getting leads from all over, rushing to each one, only to find no sign of her,” Voaklander shared with Global News.

But then, seemingly by chance, tow truck driver Darren Labelle spotted a scruffy, sickly BooBoo near his shop, nearly 10 miles away from the cat’s home.

Recognizing that BooBoo seemed domesticated, despite her rough condition, Labelle began to feed her and offer shelter inside his shop. “She’d jump up on us, headbutt us, and even lay on my keyboard while I was trying to work,” he recalled. “I knew she had to be someone’s pet.”

Labelle posted a photo of BooBoo on a Facebook page for lost animals, and within an hour, the Voaklanders were on their way to rescue her. They were overjoyed to have their beloved cat back, though BooBoo spent the next three days sleeping to recover.

Though they’ll never know exactly what happened to BooBoo during her time away, the Voaklanders suspect she may have been stolen and then abandoned. They expressed their gratitude to Labelle by offering him a $1,000 reward, which he initially declined but later accepted to help feed other stray cats in need.

Labelle’s kindness and dedication to BooBoo’s return have left the family deeply grateful and reminded them that heroes don’t always wear capes.
