Cartoons and TV shows often portrayed the hilarious idea of stacking kids under a long coat to impersonate a tall adult. The concept was simple: three kids standing on top of each other, trying to fool passersby into thinking they were a very tall man with a toddler’s face. Somehow, this trick always worked in the fictional world, with the typical line being, “Nothing to see here, just a really tall man.”
But in real life, this kind of stunt has never really taken off. It’s not like you see rogue kindergartners trying to sneak into places by hiding under coats. Children today are more supervised than cartoons would have you think. Still, supervision doesn't stop them from having a little fun.
TikTok user Messi Ross shared a video of her toddler attempting a similar prank, with mom playing along. Since her daughter is still very young, it was clear she couldn’t pull off the illusion on her own, so Ross helped by hoisting her daughter onto her shoulders. As they walked through the store, it looked like a tall woman with a tiny head was out shopping, with the baby’s facial expressions perfectly matching her mom’s movements.
Tyla posted the video on Facebook, complete with captions that made the entire situation even more amusing. Commenters couldn’t get enough of the adorable scene.
“This reminds me of a scene from The Little Rascals when Stymie and Spanky dressed up as gentlemen to take out a loan,” one person writes.
“I’d be laughing so hard if I saw this in person. So cute and funny,” another commenter says.
“This is so adorable! Put a big smile on my face! Thank you!!!” someone else adds.
