Only some have the chance to grow up with pets, which means they miss out on the unique joy of having an animal companion. While they might interact with friends or family members' pets, it’s not the same as having one of your own. The comfort and happiness that pets bring, especially on tough days, are experiences often missed by those who have never owned a pet.
Caleb, who had always lived without a pet, recently had a life-changing encounter when he found a tiny, helpless kitten. Instantly, he felt a deep connection and knew he had to rescue her.
“I was walking home when I spotted this tiny kitten,” Caleb told The Dodo. “I felt like I was meant to find her; this is my first pet.”
He named the kitten Nala Jaye and has made her an integral part of his life. Caleb takes her everywhere he can. He even outfits Nala with a leash for walks, and when he wants to keep her close, he uses a special cat pouch—a sling that allows him to carry her while he runs errands. Their bond is evident: Nala supervises Caleb as he brushes his teeth, and the two share moments of singing, dancing, and cuddling, with Nala often perched on his shoulder like a parrot.
“This is a house cat. She’ll only be outside if she’s on my shoulder or in her harness,” Caleb explains.
It’s heartwarming to see Caleb thrive as a new pet parent, and Nala Jaye is undoubtedly a fortunate rescue kitten to have found such a loving home.
