Ginger the Dog Reunited with Family After 5 Years Apart

A heartwarming reunion occurs as a beloved dog returns to her family after a long absence.

Ginger, a cherished pet, was stolen from her owner, Barney Lattimore, in Janesville, Wisconsin, back in 2017. Despite the years that passed, Lattimore never lost hope of finding her. He consistently checked rescue and humane society websites for any sign of Ginger, though he was disappointed each time. His persistent search paid off, leading to a touching reunion.

On May 1, the City of Beloit Police Department posted on Facebook about a stray dog they had found and asked for information from the public. Lattimore, noticing the post, reached out, hopeful that this dog might be Ginger. He discovered that the dog had been taken to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin for care while they awaited information on the dog's owner.

Lattimore hurried to the Humane Society, brimming with anticipation and nervous excitement about the possibility of seeing his lost companion. Five years is significant, and he was still determining what to expect. Yet, the thought of being reunited with Ginger kept his spirits high.

Upon arriving at the Humane Society, Lattimore's hopes were fulfilled. There was Ginger, looking as though no time had passed since their separation. The reunion was incredibly emotional, with Lattimore and Ginger expressing pure joy at being together again.

The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin highlighted the reunion on their Facebook page, sharing the story with their followers.

“Over five years ago, Ginger was stolen from her owner, Barney. Despite their efforts to recover her, including checking every potential match, Barney and his family never forgot about Ginger. They adopted new dogs and welcomed a new child into their lives, but Ginger remained in their hearts,” the post read.

“Recently, the Beloit Police Department’s post about a stray female dog led to Ginger being brought to our shelter. After a few days, Barney contacted us, believing the dog might be Ginger. When he arrived, we guided him to meet the dog, and it was immediately clear that it was her. The joy on Barney's face, and Ginger’s, was truly unforgettable. Ginger is now reunited with her family, ready to reconnect with her new ‘pack' members and make up for lost time!”

In response, Lattimore expressed his gratitude: “I thank everyone. Prayers do get answered; she's back home and doing well. Thanks again for the love and support. You all are amazing, and I love you all.”

This story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the unbreakable bond between a pet and its owner.
