Babies, both human and animal, are impressively adaptable. For young creatures, life is simply what it is—they adjust because they don't know any different. Still, it's remarkable to imagine a kitten thriving without front legs.
Cats rely heavily on their entire bodies—from whiskers to tails—for balance, so walking without two of their four limbs seems like an extraordinary challenge. But for a kitten named Duck, it’s simply her normal. After being rescued, Duck had to undergo the amputation of both front legs. While she was a bit wobbly at first, she quickly figured out how to navigate her world.
Duck's human, Cody, shares her daily adventures on Instagram under the aptly named account, Purrasic Duck. In an interview with The Dodo, Cody recounted Duck’s inspiring journey and how she quickly learned to move with surprising agility. And if you’re struggling to imagine what a two-legged cat on the go looks like, think of a tiny, furry velociraptor darting after a laser pointer.
“I named her Duck because of the way she waddled at first,” Cody explained. “She’d move slowly, figuring out her balance and how to get around.”
But Duck didn’t stay wobbly for long. Soon, she was confidently chasing toys and playing alongside her much bigger dog siblings. Her pug brother even helps her with face-cleaning duties, as Duck doesn’t have paws to handle the task herself. She returns the favor, creating an adorable bond between the two unlikely friends.
